CSDS Mandate

Dance studies encompasses a broad range of research areas including history, anthropology, movement analysis, ethnology, creative process studies, dance education, dance writing and criticism, among others. The Canadian Society for Dance Studies encourages and promotes research and writing in Canadian dance studies, and provides a forum for dance researchers to discuss their work with each other.

The Society for Canadian Dance Studies is mandated to:
 

  • Encourage, promote, discuss and publish research and writing in Canadian dance studies;
     
  • Create a record of Canadian dance with academic precision in an accessible writing style;
     
  • Promote the teaching of dance studies in post-secondary dance programs, private dance schools and public schools of all levels;
     
  • Provide a forum for the discussion of issues and topics surrounding Canadian dance studies;
     
  • Raise the profile of Canadian dance studies within academic institutions and funding bodies;
     
  • Take an active role in the preservation of Canadian dance history.
